The Seattle Seahawks made a splash at the deadline, acquiring receiver Rashid Shaheed from the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday at the NFL trade deadline. Shaheed provides the Seahawks’ offense with a great deep-ball threat and some much-needed wide receiver depth, as Cooper Kupp, Jake Bobo, and Dareke Young are all currently injured.

He currently has 44 receptions for 499 yards and two touchdowns, already ranking second on the Seahawks in both receptions and receiving yards. Shaheed also brings value on special teams he was named a First-Team All-Pro in 2023 as a return specialist.

I expect him to fit well into this offense, as he has familiarity with Seattle’s offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who was in New Orleans last season. As mentioned, Shaheed is a great deep-ball threat and can stretch the field with his blazing speed. He is set to become a UFA (unrestricted free agent) after this season, so I expect him to try to show out in Seattle in hopes of earning a payday.

Shaheed was the only move the Seahawks made at the trade deadline, and it wasn’t a surprising one. He had been in trade rumors for the past few weeks, and with the Saints sitting at 1–8 and clearly in sellers at the deadline, I was expecting him to be moved. Shaheed is only making $2.1 million, so with his cheap salary and solid upside, I really like this move for Seattle.

The Seahawks are in the thick of the NFC playoff race and fighting for a division title, and they’re hoping that Shaheed helps their offense reach another level.
