Claire Thompson was PWHL Vancouver’s first signing during the exclusive signing window of the 2025 PWHL Expansion Draft, making her the first player in franchise history.
Having proven herself as a strong defensive player for the back-to-back Walter Cup champions, the Minnesota Frost, Thompson brings first hand playoff knowledge to PWHL Vancouver, after capturing her first championship last year.

PWHL Highlights
In her first year in the PWHL, Thompson was a finalist for the 2025 PWHL Defender of the year and was named to the second all-star for the 2024-25 season.
As well, she was a 2025 Walter Cup Champion with the Frost.
Olympic Highlights
Thompson made her Olympic debut in the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, winning a gold medal with Canada’s women’s hockey team.
In the 2022 Winter Olympics, she led all defence in points with 13 (2 goals, 11 assists), setting a new record for points by a defensemen in a single tournament.

Outside of hockey, Thompson has pursued medicine. She took time off from hockey, during the PWHL’s inaugural season, to study medicine full time at New York University (NYU).
