Tri-City outclassed in 6-3 loss to Everett

Tri-City was outclassed in nearly every facet of the game Sunday afternoon, as yet another slow start put them behind the eight ball in Everett. The Western Conference–leading Silvertips rolled to a 6–3 victory, pushing Tri-City’s struggles against Everett even further this season.

First Period

Everett did exactly what was expected in the opening twenty minutes, jumping on Tri-City right from the drop of the puck.

After an early onslaught in which Everett controlled possession for the first four minutes, the pressure finally paid off. Following a strong save by Xavier Wendt, the rebound sat loose in the crease and was cleaned up by Seattle Kraken prospect Julius Miettinen to open the scoring.

Tri-City looked a step slow out of the gate, and Wendt was forced to keep them afloat. He made the save of the night shortly after, stretching his glove back on the goal line to rob Mirco Dufour on what looked like a sure goal with an open net.

It took the Americans eight minutes to register their first shot on goal, with Everett holding an 11–0 edge at the seven-minute mark. Tri-City began to settle in after the first media timeout, but Everett struck again regardless.

Lukas Kaplan made it 2–0 from the bottom of the left circle, sneaking a shot under Wendt’s glove.

Then came the backbreaker. With just 40 seconds left in the period, Connor Dale lost the puck in his skates, allowing Everett to pickpocket it and race in on a two-on-zero. Carter Bear slid it across to Matius Vanhanen, who tapped it home on the back door to make it 3–0.

After one, Wendt had done everything possible to keep the game within reach, stopping 13 of 16 shots.

Second Period

Tri-City showed brief signs of life early in the second — and were rewarded for it.

Crew Martinson carried the puck down the right wing and floated it to Jakub Vanecek, who burst into the right circle and fired it blocker-side past Legall to put Tri-City on the board.

That momentum didn’t last long.

Everett restored the three-goal cushion on the power play after a Cruz Pavao tripping penalty. A shot-and-rebound sequence left the puck loose beside the net, where Jesse Heslop tapped it in to make it 4–1. The Silvertips were now 2-for-2 on the man advantage.

Just a few minutes later, a shot rang off the crossbar and dropped into the crease. Aden Bouchard tried to sweep it off the line, but the puck deflected off Connor Dale and into the net, extending Everett’s lead to 5–1.

40 minutes in, it was still all Everett with the score being 5-1.

Third Period

To Tri-City’s credit, the third period marked their best stretch of the night, as the Americans outshot Everett 14–8 in the final frame.

It was ultimately too little, too late.

Still, Tri-City refused to go quietly. With seven minutes remaining, they snapped Everett’s streak of 25 consecutive penalties killed by converting on the power play. From the left circle, Connor Dale snapped a shot through the five-hole of Legall. Though it initially appeared to be cleared off the goal line, a video review confirmed the puck had fully crossed.

Dale wasn’t finished. With 46 seconds remaining, he struck again after collecting a rebound off a Cruz Pavao shot from the slot and firing it past Legall for his second of the night and third total point.

Everett answered once more in the final seconds, as Jesse Heslop slipped behind the Tri-City defense and backhanded one past Xavier Wendt with ten seconds left to seal a 6–3 Silvertips victory. Despite the result, Tri-City showed resilience with a hard-fought third period.

Postgame / What’s Next

With the loss in a very tough place to play, Tri-City finishes the three-in-three at 1–2 and falls to 25-19-3-1, locking them into sixth place in the Western Conference.

The defeat drops Tri-City to 0–5 against Everett this season, with one final meeting remaining in three weeks. Barring a playoff matchup, the Americans are at risk of being swept in the six-game season series.

Special teams proved decisive. Everett went 2-for-3 on the power play during key times of the game, while Tri-City had just one opportunity and failed to convert.

Next weekend, Tri-City heads into a doubleheader: Friday in Penticton, then home Saturday for the annual Pink Ice Night, where the ice is painted pink to raise funds for local breast cancer research. Penticton has been playing strong hockey, recently seeing their 14-game point streak come to an end last Friday night.
