Sarah Nurse signed with PWHL Vancouver during the expansion draft, in the exclusive signing window.
Their fourth signing, and first offensive signing, Nurse is already loved by fans. With two seasons in the PWHL under her belt, she will be a valuable player for PWHL Vancouver in their inaugural season.

In the PWHL’s inaugural season, Nurse was voted to the Second All-Star Team.
Playing for PWHL Vancouver after participating in the Vancouver stop of the PWHL Takeover Tour.
Olympic Highlights
In the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games, Nurse won a silver medal with Canada’s women’s hockey team.
In the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games, Nurse and Team Canada won gold, making Nurse the first Black woman to win Olympic hockey gold.
Also in the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games, Nurse recorded 18 points, breaking Hayley Wickenheiser’s Olympic record of 17 points. She also set the record for most assists in a single tournament at 13.
Nurse Highlights
Nurse was a cover athlete, alongside Trevor Zegras, on the EA Sports NHL 23 cover. She was the first woman and the first Black woman to be featured.
Nurse, along with Marie-Philip Poulin, have two Barbie dolls modeled after them. Nurse and Poulin first had Barbie dolls inspired by them in 2020. These dolls were dressed in Team Canada gear.
Now, in 2025, Nurse and Poulin have Barbie dolls modeled after them again, this time dressed in PWHL gear. In collaboration, the PWHL, Tim Hortons, and Barbie have created Barbie dolls, showing the next generation of girls there is space for them in hockey.
Fun Fact
A fun-fact about Nurse is that she is cousins with Darnell Nurse, a defenseman for the Edmonton Oilers, a team in the NHL, and Kia Nurse, a guard for the Chicago Sky, a team in the WNBA.
Nurse has expressed her excitement about being a part of PWHL Vancouver saying, “I am so honoured to be joining PWHL Vancouver, finally bringing professional women’s hockey to the West Coast.” With this enthusiasm, Nurse will be ready for PWHL Vancouver’s first game, which will be played at home, and first season in the league.
