I believe the Vancouver Canucks will finish 3rd in the Pacific Division this season with a record of 48-26-8 (104 points). This won’t be a miracle run, but it will be a clear step forward, showing the Canucks can compete with the best.
Pettersson’s bounce-back
Elias Pettersson is due for a huge comeback. Last season was messy, but with a clean slate under new coach Adam Foote, Petey should put up 90+ points again. He’ll be the offensive engine, and if he starts shooting more, the goals will come in bunches.
Demko’s strong finish
Thatcher Demko will be the backbone. With Kevin Lankinen backing him up, Demko doesn’t need to overextend himself. I see him pacing well early, then turning it up in the second half, giving the Canucks elite goaltending heading into the playoffs. If he’s healthy, Vancouver always has a chance.
A deeper, tougher roster
This roster has balance now:
- Filip Chytil replacing JT Miller as 2C gives them speed and youth. (Although upgrades are needed, management seems to be fine with this)
- Jake DeBrusk and Brock Boeser give Pettersson reliable, goal-scoring wingers.
- Evander Kane brings grit and toughness that makes the Canucks harder to play against.
- On defense, Quinn Hughes is still the superstar, but Marcus Pettersson, Filip Hronek, and Derek Forbort give the blue line more structure and size.
This is the most balanced lineup Vancouver has had in years.
Prospects waiting in the wings
- Jonathan Lekkerimäki could step in during the season, adding a dangerous shot to the power play.
- Tom Willander may not play full-time yet, but he’s the next piece on defense and will get opportunities if injuries happen.
Why 3rd place with 104 points?
The Pacific is tough. Edmonton will still lead the division thanks to McDavid and Draisaitl. Vegas, when healthy, is built for regular-season consistency. That leaves Vancouver as the clear third-best team—better than LA, Seattle, Calgary, Utah, and Anaheim.
Final thoughts
The Canucks have a legit star trio in Pettersson, Hughes, and Demko, and now the supporting cast is stronger and more playoff-ready. With a healthier Demko, a bounce-back Pettersson, and a coach who demands tighter defensive play, I see them taking a big step forward.
Final prediction: 48-26-8 (104 points), 3rd in the Pacific, and a playoff run that could go beyond Round 1.
