2022 WHL Western Conference Playoff Recap: April 30

Welcome to the daily WHL playoff recap focusing on the Western Conference. Here is a look back at the day that was:

Everett Silvertips (0) vs Vancouver Giants (3)

This series continues to be bizzare as less than 27 hours after posting a 11-6 final in Game 4, the Giants and Silvertips combined for three goals in Game 5. Vancouver, the eight seed pulled off the shutout thanks to Jesper Vikman who casually made 50 saves and set a franchise playoff record for saves in a shutout. This is also considered a WHL playoff record as there has also been no recorded shutout of 50-or-more saves in the WHL playoffs beyond 2004.

For the Giants, Adam Hall opened the scoring in the first thanks to his sixth of the playoffs. In the third, Vancouver added to their lead thanks to a goal by Fabian Lysell and finished off the game with a Connor Horning power play empty netter. Overall, the Giants were outshot 50-31 on the evening.

As mentioned though, the night belonged to Vikman and his 50 save shutout. The Vegas Golden Knights prospect was incredible and has helped the Giants put the Silvertips on the brink of elimination going into Game 6. Expect a loud crowd Monday night as Vancouver tries to make history as the only eight seed to knock off a one seed in Game 6 back in Langley.
