Edmonton Oil Kings (4) vs Red Deer Rebels (0)
The Edmonton Oil Kings used a three goal second period to take Game One of the Eastern Conference Semi Finals 4-0.
Dylan Guenther opened the scoring in the first on a nice setup from Kaiden Guhle. Then in the second, Simon Kubicek bounced one of off two Red Deer Rebels to gain the 2-0 lead. Kaiden Guhle and Luke Prokop added two quick goals at 14:49 and 16:43 respectively to lock it down for the Oil Kings.
Sebastian Cossa had a quiet night in terms of shots. He faced 18 shots, including just four in the third, to get the shutout. Chase Coward made 23 saves on 27 shots for the Rebels. He was replaced by Connor Ungar in the third. In Ungar’s first appearance in the playoffs, he made eight saves. The Oil Kings out shot the Rebels 35-18.
Special teams were not a significant factor in this game. The Oil Kings were one for three. The Rebels were zero for two. Game Two is Saturday in Edmonton.
