Vancouver Rise add midfielder Josie Longhurst to squad

The continuation of Vancouver Rise FC’s advent calendar of players advanced today with the addition of midfielder Josie Longhurst.

Longhurst, 22, is the third player announced by the Rise. Shannon Woeller and Jessica De Filippo were named on Monday and Tuesday respectively.

Most recently, Longhurst has been with the Vancouver Whitecaps League1 BC team, joining in July.

Rise sporting director Stephanie Labbé, in a press release, credited Longhurst’s professional experience at such a young age.

“Josie immediately showed her ability as a midfielder when she arrived in Vancouver,” Labbé said. “She is a fantastic character, always wanting to grow and learn, and already having pro experience in England at her age speaks to her level of play and potential.”

Before moving to Canada, Longhurst played for Reading in the Women’s Championship, the second division of football in England. She also spent time with Lewes, Brighton & Hove Albion and Cardiff City.

Longhurst has been called up to the Welsh senior women’s team but is uncapped. She has previously represented Wales at the U-17 and U-19 levels.
