Yankees Win At Home To Stay Alive In World Series

The New York Yankees get their first win of the World Series with the help of their big bats. You knew the Yankees would not go down without a fight and fight is exactly what they did. The Dodgers started the game off like all the other games. When New York got going they really got going in this game. It looked more like the Yankees team we have come to know this season.

Game Summary

Freddie Freeman is doing something that you do not see every post season. He homered again in the first inning of this game with Mookie Betts on base to put the Dodgers up 2-0. If the Dodgers can wrap up this series, Freeman is the easy pick for World Series MVP. Thanks to some great base running by Anthony Volpe, the Yankees would pull within one in the bottom of the 2nd, due to Verdugo being able to bring him home.

The bottom of the third is when this game got very interesting. Judge was hit by a pitch and would advance to first base. Chisholm Jr. would hit a sharp line drive to right and Aaron Judge would make it to third. Chisholm Jr. would steal second, now having men on second and third for the team from the Bronx. Stanton would walk and load the bases. Rizzo would pop out into a infield fly. Anthony Volpe would step to the plate and blast a pitch out of the park for a grand slam. 5-2 Yankees.

In the top of the fifth, Will Smith would hit a solo home run to bring the Dodgers a little closer. With Edman on first, Ohtani would line drive to center and the Dodgers would have two men on. Mookie Betts would would ground out and Ohtani would be out at second but Betts would make it to first and Edman would advance to third. After a challenge on a play at first, Freeman would make it to first safe, Betts would be ruled out at second, but Edman would make it home. 5-4 Yankees.

Heading into the bottom of the eighth, Yankees now up 6-4, Anthony Volpe would double to left with one out. Wells would walk. Wells and Volpe would steal second and third. Alex Verdugo would come to the plate and he would get hit and reach on a fielder’s choice, Volpe would score on the play, Wells to third. Gleyber Torres would hit a home run to center field and would bring in three runs. Yankees would go up 10-4. Soto would double and Judge at his next at bat would bring Soto home. 11-4 Yankees.

That is where the scoring would end. Each team exchanging outs and this series is not over with the Dodgers now having a 3-1 lead.

Biggest Takeaways

Yankees Bats Get Going Finally

While the Yankees would get three home runs, it was more about their ability to get hits with runners on. It was not just their stars that were hitting too, it was their whole lineup. Judge was able to score a run and get an RBI which is big for him. If the Yankees can keep the bats hot for tomorrows game, we may be heading back to LA.

Freddie Freeman Stays Hot

Freddie Freeman may be the biggest story in the World Series. He homered again and was able to just make a difference in this game. Freeman can’t be the only one creating offense and that is one of the reasons they lost this game, but that should not take away from his great play so far.

New York’s Bullpen Comes Up Big

The Yankees bullpen came up big in this game. After Luis Gil left the game after giving up the four runs, the bullpen just locked it down. It would have been easy for them to give up a run to this star studded Dodgers lineup, but they fought for this win. Great to see this from the bullpen as they will need to be relied on the rest of the series if the Yankees are to make a comeback.

Dodgers Pitching Did Not Perform Tonight

New York’s pitching did well tonight, you can not say the same for the Dodgers. Each pitchers giving up hits and runs in critical moments of the game. Hudson took the lose tonight with giving up fours runs, but the whole pitching staff should be at fault for this lose. It was not a great game for the team as whole, but at some point you knew the Yankees were going to start hitting some balls.

Series Outlook

With one more game in New York, the Yankees are going to want to use their home field advantage while they can. If they don’t we may never make it to LA for Game 6. The Dodgers are still very much in control in this series, but they will need their pitching to step up if they want to finish this series off tomorrow night. Like I said last time, this series will be must watch baseball the rest of theway with the Yankees up against it and the Dodgers seeing the finish line so close.

Make sure you stay locked on Area 51 for the rest of this World Series!
