As we get closer to free agency, what’s the future of Nikita Zadorov with the Vancouver Canucks? After an impressive playoff performance a lot of fans have been inquiring. What’s the future of Nikita Zadorov with the Vancouver Canucks?
The 6’6 230lb defenseman had a great season with the Vancouver Canucks. He was basically a staple on the second pair when he came over from the Calgary Flames. He capped it off with a dominant post season that saw him play a shut down defenseman role. While providing a level of offense with 4 goals and 4 assists in 13 playoff games. Now the question has turned to what’s the future of Nikita Zadorov with the Vancouver Canucks?
It seems like the fan base has fallen in love with him. From his media answers and calling out the Calgary and Edmonton markets, to his amazing style when showing up for a game. Big Z has become a fan favorite in the city. He was even out golfing the other day with JT Miller and Sportsnets Dan Murphy.
Are They Too Far Away?
I mentioned Big Z had a fantastic post season and could have priced himself out of Vancouver.
A source I spoke with said the two sides could be a ways off. The Canucks made an offer before the playoffs started to the Zadorov camp but it was turned down.
A source close to the situation spoke with me on Wednesday morning, ” [They] tried really hard before the playoffs to get the deal together but couldn’t agree on number of years.”
“Since the playoffs They didn’t hold any contract talks. As much as Big Z wants to stay, it’s looking more and more that we are going free agency.”
This could be disappointing news for the Canucks as they will have to replace that size and skill on the back end next season. Who knows what the future holds for the Big Russian defender but as of right now it doesn’t sound like it will be in Vancouver.
