Vancouver Rise sign Canadian keeper Morgan McAslan

Vancouver Rise FC completed the spine today with the signing of Canadian goalkeeper Morgan McAslan.

She was signed from the Vancouver Whitecaps Girls Elite Academy team. McAslan joined the Whitecaps in July and played in 10 matches across all competitions, including all five matches of the inaugural CONCACAF W Champions Cup.

McAslan, 24, becomes the fourth player signed by the Rise, following defender Shannon Woeller, forward Jessica De Filippo and midfielder Josie Longhurst.

“I am so excited to be joining the Vancouver Rise for the inaugural season of the Northern Super League,” McAslan said in a video message. “I am so proud and humbled to be taking part in history as we launch the first-ever women’s professional soccer league in Canada, something that I’ve dreamed about since I was younger.

Rise sporting director Stephanie Labbé said in a press release that McAslan has huge potential.

“Coming to Vancouver for the Concacaf W Champions Cup was a big opportunity for her. She was calm, composed, and came up with some huge saves. She proved her ability to play at this level and we can’t wait to see how much further she can go.”

The Rise marks McAslan’s first foray into professional football. Previously, she was a part of the Samford University team.
