Tri-City sweep the three-in-three and beat Wenatchee 4-1

Tri-City looked to close out its three-in-three weekend with three straight wins after playing some excellent hockey in the first two games at home. The Americans took that momentum on the road against their rivals, the Wenatchee Wild, looking to finish the weekend on a high note.

They did exactly that.

After striking just 52 seconds into the game, Tri-City grabbed an early lead and never really looked back, cruising to a 4-1 road victory to complete the three-in-three sweep.

The Americans were strong in all areas of the game. Wenatchee generated some quality chances throughout the night, but Ryan Grout was up to the task in net, delivering his best performance of the early season.

First Period

Tri-City came out swinging, opening the scoring just 52 seconds into the game.

David Huk, who has been electric since arriving in North America, notched his fourth goal of the season. Huk came barreling down the middle and snapped a shot toward the net that Tobias Tvrznik simply whiffed on with his glove, a rare miscue from one of the league’s top goaltenders.

The Americans were just as impressive defensively to start the game, holding Wenatchee without a shot on goal until the 7:30 mark in the opening period.

After 20 minutes, Tri-City held a 1-0 lead, with Huk’s early strike standing as the difference.

Second Period

The second period is where Tri-City would really blow things open.

Wenatchee had a golden opportunity to even the score just under seven minutes into the period. With nobody around him at point-blank range, Jake Mintenko fired a wrist shot, but Grout came up with the save to preserve Tri-City’s 1-0 advantage.

Shortly after, Cruz Pavao doubled the Americans lead.

Crew Martinson toe-dragged through the slot, faking out the defense before electing to pass rather than shoot. He found Pavao on the doorstep, where Pavao spun around and roofed the puck over Tvrznik to make it 2-0.

Tri-City then had a chance to put Wenatchee in an even deeper hole on its first power play of the game. Instead, making a costly mistake.

Eli McKamey fanned on a shot from the point, allowing Grady Wedman to take off the other way on a breakaway. Wedman went glove-side on Grout, beating the goaltender for a shorthanded goal that brought the Wild within one.

However, the goal would prove to be little more than a temporary lifeline for Wenatchee. As Tri-City responded with two more goals before the end of the period.

First, Aden Bouchard entered the zone on the right wing during a two-on-one and snapped a shot toward the net. Tvrznik couldn’t control the rebound, and the puck popped loose beside the net. Bouchard followed his shot and buried the rebound to restore the two-goal cushion.

Then, with just 30 seconds remaining in the period, Pavao struck again.

Dylan LeBret fired a shot from the right circle toward the backdoor, where Pavao got his stick on it and redirected the puck into the net for his second goal of the period.

Tri-City headed into the second intermission with a commanding 4-1 lead, turning a close game into a comfortable advantage in a matter of minutes.

Third Period

With a three-goal lead heading into the final period, Tri-City was in control, and Wenatchee had a steep hill to climb if it wanted to mount a comeback.

The Americans stayed composed defensively and shut things down, doing enough to protect their lead and complete the three-in-three sweep.

The Wild nearly found another shorthanded goal in an attempt to spark some late drama. Josh Fluker appeared to have a chance at the backdoor, but Grout came across to rob him with an excellent save.

There was also a bit of controversy on the play, as the officials lost sight of the puck and blew the whistle despite the puck remaining loose.

That would be about as close as Wenatchee would get. Tri-City took care of business on the road, closing out a convincing 4-1 victory.

Postgame Notes and What’s Next

Tri-City improves to 3-4-1 on the season, and while the record might not fully reflect the Americans play, the wins are finally starting to pile up.

The offense has been particularly impressive, with Tri-City scoring at least four goals in each of its last three games. The Americans are beginning to find their rhythm offensively, and the results are starting to follow.

Pavao led the way with his first multi-goal performance of the season and the fifth of his career. His two-goal second period helped turn a tight game into a comfortable Tri-City lead.

In net, Grout stopped 29 shots to earn his first win of the season. After a discouraging performance Wednesday night, the goaltender bounced back in a big way.

Eli McKamey also extended his point streak to five consecutive games with his assist.

Discipline was another positive for Tri-City. The Americans did not have to kill off a single penalty, making for a particularly clean performance.

Finally, Bouchard continues to make an impact. With his goal, he has already surpassed his previous single-season career high of one goal, bringing his total to two.
