The Tri-City Americans committed several costly errors in the second period that ultimately led to a 3–2 loss against the Everett Silvertips. Despite the defeat, goaltender Ryan Grout delivered a career-high 57-save performance to keep Tri-City within striking distance.
First Period
Tri-City opened the game with solid energy, holding Everett at bay for much of the first ten minutes — a promising sign given the struggles of the past seven games.
Cruz Pavao had an early golden opportunity off a developing three-on-two rush but narrowly missed a wide-open backdoor tap-in.
Everett capitalized shortly after. Following what nearly resulted in a delay of game penalty, the Silvertips broke out on an odd-man rush. Landon DuPont fed Jesse Heslop, who beat Grout to give Everett a 1–0 lead.
Late in the frame, Everett began to dominate possession and shots. David Byrne took a penalty, sending Tri-City to the kill for the final 1:24. Thanks to a missed chance by Julius Miettinen on a tic-tac-toe play, the Americans escaped the period down just 1–0.
Shots: 20–7 Everett
Tri-City carried 34 seconds of penalty kill time into the second period.
Second Period
Early in the second, Charlie Elick fired a long shot that LeGall stopped. McKinnon corralled the rebound but sent it just wide, nearly tying the game two minutes in.
Trouble struck when Ismail Abogouche failed to clear the puck several times. Carter Bear capitalized, beating Grout glove side to make it 2–0.
Then, after a turnover by Aden Bouchard at neutral ice, Bear broke in again. Grout made the initial save, but Zackhary Shantz buried the rebound to extend the lead to 3–0.
The period was heavily tilted:
Second-period shots: 24–5 Everett
Total after two: 44–12 Everett
Grout had already made 41 saves through forty minutes, keeping the game from becoming a blowout.
Third Period
Tri-City showed fight in the final frame.
Pavao snapped a seven-game goal drought just under five minutes in, scoring his 16th of the season to cut the deficit to 3–1.
Later, with Grout still holding firm, Jakub Vanecek blasted a slap shot through traffic with 1:33 remaining to make it a one-goal game. LeGall never saw the puck as it slipped five-hole.
Despite the late push, the Americans couldn’t complete the comeback, falling 3–2.
Postgame / What’s Next
The loss completes a six-game season sweep by Everett, the first time in 23 seasons that Tri-City has been swept by the Silvertips. The Americans have now dropped eight straight and sit one game outside of a playoff spot.
Grout was the clear standout, stopping 57 of 60 shots in the best performance of his WHL career.
Offensively, David Krcal continues to shine. With two assists (one primary, one secondary), he extended his point streak to four games and as of late has been one of the lone offensive brightspots for Tri-City.
The Americans return home Tuesday night to face the Victoria Royals at 7:05 P.M. A win would tie Tri-City for the final playoff spot, while a loss would leave Tri-City two games back with just 13 remaining in the regular season.
