The National League Conference Series has been some very entertaining baseball. There has arguably been no close games in this series. With each team blowing their opponents doors off any chance they get. While the series is close, Dodgers lead 3-2, the games are all offense. The Mets have scored 21 runs and the Dodgers have put up 36 runs. 36 to 21! How have the Dodgers been blown out you might be asking. The answer is simple, the Dodgers defense has shown up for a couple of the games.
Los Angeles has been good defensively in some of the games in this series. Getting two shut outs and giving up only two runs in the other win they have. The Mets on the other hand have struggled really getting a hold of the big bats of the Dodgers lineup. In New York’s wins, they have given up three in one game and six in the other. The Dodgers do have a plethora of big swingers that can inflict damage on any team they play.
The stars have been shining in this series. Tommy Edman leading the series with a .409 batting average, seven RBIs, and nine hits. The other top players on the Dodgers roster have been showing up big offensively as well with Mookie Betts, Max Muncy, and Shohei Ohtani hitting the ball well. Freddy Freeman has been struggling this series, assuming due to the ankle injury.
New Yorks players have been able to go toe to toe with the Dodgers stars. Starling Marte and Jesse Winker leading the team with their batting averages while Alonso, Vientos and Lindor have been able to do some damage. The Mets are really playing a great team game when they are not getting blown out.
Pitching has been as such a wild card in this series. With this much offense in one series, the pitchers will always be taking a beating. Each team has to monitor how much they are using certain pitchers due to the big run totals so far. I assume that will continue until Game 7 (if there is a Game 7). Sean Manaea will be on the mound for the Mets in Game 6 and he gave the Dodgers a bit of a problem in Game 2. The Dodgers were able to get to him for 3 runs eventually. Dodgers starter yet to be announced.
Game 6 takes place tomorrow at 8:08pm EST and 5:08pm PST in Los Angeles. The Dodgers will look to use the home field advantage to punch their ticket to the World Series while the Mets will look to stay alive in the series. If the last few games are any indication of how it will go, anyone could win and we should expect a lot of runs.
We are getting closer and closer to the World Series so stay locked on Area 51 for all the coverage!
